Recognition exemplifies Alcoa’s commitment to integrate
sustainability into day-to-day operations
NEW YORK–Alcoa (NYSE:AA) announced today that its Brazilian operations has
received Gold Certification from the Brazil Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol
Program for transparency in reporting and quantifying its emissions
inventories in 2010. The certification was granted following an
assessment by independent Brazilian auditor Vanzolini Foundation.
Alcoa was one of the first companies in Brazil to participate in the GHG
Protocol Program.
“Receiving certification shows the efforts that Alcoa is making in
declaring its emissions in a transparent way and proves the company’s
commitment to reducing emissions year-after-year,” said Franklin L.

About the Brazil GHG Protocol Program
The Brazil GHG Protocol Program was launched in 2008 and has 77 member
companies. The Program promotes voluntary GHG emissions management by
building technical and institutional capacity for emissions accounting
and reporting at the organizational level. It is a partnership between
Brazil’s Ministry of Environment, the Brazilian Business Council for
Sustainable Development (CEBDS), the Fundação Getulio Vargas, the World
Business Council on Sustainable Development and the World Resource
Institute. The Greenhouse Gas Protocol is the most widely used
international accounting tool for government and business leaders to
understand, quantify and manage GHG emissions.
