PITTSBURGH–Alcoa (NYSE:AA) announced today that its Alcoa Architectural Products
(AAP) business received the Metal Construction Association’s President’s
Award for Overall Excellence, an annual designation given for
outstanding building projects.
The MCA President’s Awards honors member companies, architects,
contractors and fabricators that help achieve innovative, creative
building design. AAP’s Reynobond® aluminum composite material was a key
material used on the façades of the newly built Central Los Angeles Area
High School #9, a school for the performing arts.
The Los Angeles Unified School District wanted a campus that would
reflect the creativity of the students through the architecture of its
buildings. The school comprises four academies — education in music,
dance, theatre arts and visual arts. The result is a stunning campus
with dramatic buildings that look like sculptures. Alcoa’s Reynobond®
ACM material in a Gray Velvet color was installed on all the academy and
art building facades. The recyclable composite metal panels were also
used on the exterior of the lobby, lobby canopy and pop-out windows as
well as on the skylights and other areas on the library and theater.
“We are pleased that our Reynobond materials were selected for this
spectacular campus. The aesthetic appeal of our Reynobond product, the
variety of metals and colors available, and its formability were
contributing factors in achieving a distinctive building design,” said
Glen Morrison, President, Alcoa Building and Construction Systems.
