NEW YORK–Alcoa announced today that architectural aluminum products from its
Kawneer UK business will be used on the Halo Tower in London, that, when
finished, will be one of the tallest residential buildings in London,
offering panoramic views of the City and Olympic Park.
Kawneer’s AA®201
unitized curtain walling is currently being installed on the 4th
to the 43rd floor of the Halo Tower, and Kawneer’s
traditional AA®110
curtain walling will be featured on the ground to third floor levels.
“Kawneer’s AA®201 curtain walling is ideal for fast-paced construction
projects like Halo Tower, said Sean Butler, Sales & Marketing Director,
Kawneer UK. “Architects like the AA®201 system because it can be
installed efficiently and no scaffolding is needed. It is easy to
fabricate and provides superior performance and design flexibility.”
Delivery architects KDS Associates of London said: “The façade is
designed to express verticality and provide interest by the introduction
of colored spandrels which fade from dark to light blues to the rear and
upwards. To reduce the appearance of distinct horizontal bands, four
transition zones are introduced to soften colors where they change
vertically.”
Halo Tower is one of six new residential buildings – with more than 700
one-to four-bedroomed apartments and penthouses – being constructed as
part of a redevelopment project of a former light industrial site
located outside the Olympic Park. When completed, the highly visible,
43-story Halo Tower will act as a gateway to the Olympic Games,
scheduled for 2012 in London’s Olympic Park.
Ardmore Construction, one of the largest privately owned design and
build contractors in the UK, is heading the project for Genesis Housing
Association, a leading London Housing Association.
